RIDGID

Mini Air

Mover

Working for Emerson Tool Company, a direct supplier to The Home Depot, has provided me the opportunity to redesign the RIGID product line. Although my design team has developed vacuums with superior suction and blowing power, as well as construction grade air movers with a thrust upwards of 1625cfm, no existing air-moving product has addressed the needs of today’s home owner, DIYer, garage junky, painting enthusiast, or dog groomer—until now. This is the RIDGID Mini Air Mover.

I had a few primary goals while designing this product—first and foremost was to design the air mover with RIDGID's Durability. This air mover can fall out of a truck and slide its way to the garage floor without damaging or impeding its vents. With a focus on Aesthetics, our design has a visually and structurally appealing ventilation that follows the RIDGID visual branding language.

Another goal was the Ergonomics. After a long day’s work, you want to grab your air mover, wrap up the cord and go. The stout handle that doubles as a cord wrap to ease the clean-up process.

Not only did this product require frequent, clear and concise communication with our Chinese tool vendors, but it also challenged me to be attentive to texture, creating the illusion of multiple parts in a single piece. Rigorous examinations and revisions of the surfaces ensured that the project met the highest standards of production as well as the diverse needs of manufacturers. The clearer the revisions, the sooner we could receive the molds, and the quicker we were able to make and sell the product.
