Acessories

Redesigning the RIDGID NXT Attachments challenged me to create something unique within a limited timeframe that still contained time-tested, long-loved usability. I focused on blending textures into multiple surfaces to subtly modify the object while adding only minor changes to the tool/price. Focusing on ergonomic features such as hand placement and the location of the user, I also improved the tool’s usability and aesthetics.

Ergonomics

My main task was to follow a visual branding language that could be incorporated into the different forms of tools within the product line. Each tool—having a different manufacturing process that influenced tooling parting lines—directs where certain textures are possible and where they are not.

Working with Emerson’s engineering team to create an effective locking mechanism was crucial for these accessories. In our previous accessory line, tools often fell from wands and hoses, causing users to frequently misplace the fallen parts on the device itself. Collaborating with a team, I helped create a user-friendly mechanism that is easily manufacturable and has accessories that stay intact on the device.
